Bolton's John McGinlay & Gary Pallister "lean into each others head" as the Bolton forward head butts Pallister, the United defender "laughs it off" before he is eventually is sent off during another incident at 34' when Bolton's no9 Nathan Blake tackles the United defender from behind, raking his studs down the back of his left calf, the two square up to each other twice, Pallister fully expecting Blake to receive his marching orders is surprised as referee Paul Durkin sends both players off. The red card was later overturned after Durkin admitted his mistake ruling that Pallister should only have had a yellow card for "adopting an aggressive attitude".
