Matthijs de Ligt, born on August 12, 1999, in Leiderdorp, Netherlands, is a professional footballer playing as a central defender for Manchester United and the Netherlands national team. Widely regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation, de Ligt is known for his exceptional defensive skills, leadership, and composure on the ball.

De Ligt began his football career at AFC Ajax, joining the club’s youth academy at a young age. He made his senior debut for Ajax in 2016 and quickly established himself as a key player, becoming the youngest captain in the club's history at just 19 years old. Under his leadership, Ajax enjoyed tremendous success, winning the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup in 2019 and reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. His outstanding performances earned him the Golden Boy award in 2018.

In July 2019, de Ligt signed with Juventus for a reported fee of around €75 million, making him one of the most expensive defenders in football history. During his time in Italy, he continued to develop, winning multiple Serie A titles and becoming a mainstay in Juventus's defense.

In July 2022, he transferred to Bayern Munich, where he quickly became an integral part of the team’s backline, contributing to their domestic success and showcasing his defensive prowess.

In August 2023, de Ligt made a high-profile move to Manchester United, where he joined the squad in pursuit of domestic and European glory. His arrival was seen as a significant boost to United’s defensive unit, joined the Red Devils under coach Erik ten Hag and the Premier League.

On the international stage, de Ligt has been a key player for the Netherlands since making his senior debut in 2017. He has represented the national team in major tournaments, including the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.
