Kobbie Mainoo joined Manchester United's youth setup at a very young age, he started his youth career at Cheadle & Gatley Junior Football Club, then working his way through the ranks in the club's prestigious academy. Known for his technical ability, composure on the ball, and versatility, Mainoo became a standout player for Manchester United's U18 and U21 teams. His performances in the youth leagues earned him recognition as one of the brightest prospects to come out of the academy in recent years.

Mainoo played a pivotal role in Manchester United's FA Youth Cup-winning team in 2022. His dynamic midfield presence and ability to control games in the middle of the park made him a key figure in the team's success.

Mainoo's consistent performances at youth level did not go unnoticed by Manchester United's senior coaching staff. He was first included in the senior squad under Erik ten Hag in the 2022-2023 season, making appearances in friendly matches during mid-season breaks and pre-season tours.

On January 10, 2023, Mainoo made his competitive debut for Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton Athletic, a game United won 3-0. He started the match, demonstrating maturity and tactical awareness beyond his years, which earned him praise from fans and pundits alike. His performance showed glimpses of his potential, especially his ability to maintain possession and contribute to both defensive and attacking phases of play.

Following his debut, Mainoo continued to train regularly with the first team, and although his appearances in competitive matches were limited, he remained a key figure in United's future plans. He was often seen on the bench for Premier League and Europa League matches, gaining valuable experience at the highest level.

Mainoo is often described as a modern box-to-box midfielder with excellent vision and ball control. He can play in deeper midfield roles but is equally capable of driving forward with the ball, contributing to attacks. His composure under pressure and willingness to receive the ball in tight spaces make him a valuable asset in possession-based systems.

Mainoo is also known for his work rate off the ball. He has the ability to break up play and press opponents high up the pitch, qualities that align well with Erik ten Hag's high-intensity style of play.

Kobbie Mainoo's breakthrough into the first team was expected to continue into the 2023-2024 season, and he featured prominently during pre-season. However, a setback occurred when he suffered an unfortunate injury during a friendly match against Real Madrid in July 2023. The injury was a blow to his momentum, with reports indicating he would miss the start of the season due to rehabilitation.

He is viewed as a potential long-term solution in United's midfield. The club's faith in youth, coupled with Erik ten Hag's willingness to give chances to young players, suggests that Mainoo will have ample opportunities to make his mark in the coming years. As he recovers from injury, fans and coaches alike are eager to see his development and contributions once he returns to full fitness. Many view him as a future first-team regular, capable of following in the footsteps of other successful graduates from United's academy.
