Biography
Andrey Santos arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2026 after completing a transfer from Chelsea. The Brazilian international signed a contract until June 2031, with the option of a further year, becoming one of Michael Carrick's first major signings as United manager. The deal was reported to be worth an initial £48 million, potentially rising to £50 million through performance-related add-ons
Born in Rio de Janeiro on 3 May 2004, Santos developed through the youth system at Vasco da Gama, where his leadership qualities quickly became apparent. He captained Brazil at youth level and made his senior debut for Vasco as a teenager, combining technical ability, maturity and goalscoring instincts from midfield. His performances attracted interest from Europe's leading clubs before Chelsea secured his signature in January 2023.
Following work permit complications, Santos briefly returned to Vasco before beginning his European career. A short loan spell at Nottingham Forest was followed by an outstanding campaign with Strasbourg in France, where he established himself as one of Ligue 1's most promising young midfielders. His performances earned widespread praise for his ability to control games, recover possession and contribute in the final third.
Returning to Chelsea for the 2025–26 season, Santos became an important member of the first-team squad, making 43 appearances in all competitions while scoring three goals and providing four assists. Despite his progress, competition for places prompted Manchester United to move decisively to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford.
Internationally, Santos has represented Brazil throughout the youth age groups and captained several junior sides before earning his senior international debut. Recognised for his composure and leadership despite his young age, he has established himself as one of Brazil's most highly regarded midfielders.
A modern box-to-box midfielder, Santos combines defensive discipline with excellent passing range, intelligent movement and an eye for goal. Comfortable receiving possession under pressure, he possesses the energy to cover large areas of the pitch while also contributing creatively in attacking phases. His tactical awareness and maturity have often drawn comparisons with some of Brazil's finest all-round midfielders.
Manchester United identified Santos as a key figure in the club's midfield rebuild, believing his blend of technical quality, athleticism and leadership makes him ideally suited to the demands of Premier League football. Arriving at Old Trafford at just 22 years of age, he is widely regarded as one of the club's most exciting long-term acquisitions and a player capable of becoming a cornerstone of United's midfield for many years to come.
