Biography
Thomas Arkesden was an English footballer renowned for his role as a forward during the early 20th century. Born in Warwick, England, Arkesden began his professional career with Burton Wanderers in 1895, where he made 25 appearances and scored 5 goals.
In 1898, he transferred to Derby County, contributing 14 goals in 50 appearances. Arkesden then joined Burton United in 1901, where he became the club's top scorer for two consecutive seasons, netting 26 goals in 53 matches.
On February 2, 1903, Arkesden signed with Manchester United for a fee of £150. During his tenure with United, he made 79 appearances and scored 33 goals, including a memorable hat-trick against Gainsborough Trinity in March 1902. In 1907, he moved to Gainsborough Trinity, where he played six matches and scored once before retiring from professional football.
Beyond his football career, Arkesden served in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry during World War I.
