Fact: At age 32 the 1914 FA Cup Final between Liverpool and Burnley, which Burnley won 1-0, was refereed by Herbert, who was the youngest ever referee to be given duties in an FA Cup Final.

Fact: In 1909 Herbert was appointed referee for the FA Cup quarter-final tie between Burnley and his future employers Manchester United. Herbert called the game off with only 18 minutes left to play and United losing 1-0.
