Manchester United: Urgent Changes after Failed Season

The last season ended painfully for Manchester United. Fans are raising questions about the club's future. Their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the final match of the Europa League secured their fall from grace. The team finished 16th in the Premier League, which means they will miss the European championships in the new season. This has influenced the interest of fans in the club, which is confirmed by bookmakers such as GGBet. No chance to follow Manchester United and bet on game outcomes in the Champions League or Europa League in the new season.

What Went Wrong?

Luke Shaw’s reflection was painfully honest. “We have to question ourselves,” he said. “Are we even good enough to represent Manchester United?” United’s collapse has put huge pressure on Ruben Amorim. The young specialist took over in November 2024 with high hopes to save the sinking ship. It didn’t work out the way he wanted it to be. Since Alex Ferguson’s retirement, the club managers have struggled to establish an effective strategy or develop a winning mood among players. Amorim has faced the same problem.
Shaw publicly backed Amorim, saying, "There’s a lot that needs changing—and Ruben is 100% the right person to do it. He sees the club from the inside out, on and off the pitch." The club’s owners and even fans seem to be ready to give one more chance to Amorim.

Amorim’s Demand for Changes

Amorim, for his part, acknowledged the disaster. In his end-of-season speech at Old Trafford, he apologized to fans and said, “The good days are coming.” But he also challenged the club and supporters: “We must decide—do we stay stuck in the past or move forward?” His words were met with resistance. Amorim tried to rally unity, but United fans were anything but united.
Supporters in the directors’ box are being displaced for new corporate areas. Others face reduced concessions and threats of revoked season tickets. The club is undergoing a second wave of staff layoffs, contributing to the depressive atmosphere.
Manchester United has to deal with a major overhaul this summer. Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans have all been confirmed to leave the club on June 30. Who will take their places? Still unclear. Amorim admitted that Financial Fair Play restrictions could limit how much they can invest in new players. “We can’t just spend what we want,” he explained. “There will be changes, but we are limited.”
Multiple rumors are circulating in the air. They talk about a potential £62.5 million move for Matheus Cunha and Sadio Mane. Amorim emphasized the need to change the club's culture, not just its personnel. “If we don’t shift the mindset, we’ll just repeat this season,” he said. “If that happens, then someone else should take over.”

Is There Any Light in the Tunnel?

Amorim showed visible frustration in the latest matches. He also made it clear—this summer is make or break. He warned the club must be “strong and brave” in the transfer market and honest about its trajectory. United’s Europa League final was supposed to be a last lifeline, potentially bringing Champions League qualification. Instead, it laid bare a team, a manager, and a club unsure of its future.
Manchester United’s legacy still keeps their fans’ expectations high. Without clear leadership, proper investment, and changes to the team’s strategy, the problem will remain unsolved. One thing is certain: all eyes will be on Old Trafford this summer.
