Ruben Amorim will have enhanced options available to him for the upcoming Manchester derby, as Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire are both fully fit after recovering from injury.
It will be a huge bonus for the Portuguese coach, as defensive options have been limited in recent weeks. If you know how to bet on English Premier League, you probably take into consideration these injuries reports.
United were expecting an injury crisis ahead of the showdown with Manchester City, with Ayden Heaven becoming the latest defender ruled out for an extended period of time.
Therefore, Yoro and Maguire could both be thrust back into first-team action for the home showdown with City.
Maguire In Line For First Start Since February
Harry Maguire’s return to fitness will be a huge bonus for United, as the central defender has been out of action due to a calf injury since the end of February. The defender has been a standout performer under Amorim since the Portuguese coach took the job at Old Trafford, and he has largely been a preferred option in the back three.
Maguire has made 20 appearances in the Premier League this season, and has also featured three times in the Europa League. The defender has been part of the United defence that has kept five clean sheets, and he has completed 23 tackles in the Premier League this term.
Maguire’s aggression in the heart of the United defence has also been important, as he has averaged 2.19 interceptions per 90. His aggression has also saw him average 4.37 winning ground duels per match, and an impressive 3.05 winning aerial duels per match.
However, due to Erling Haaland likely being unavailable for City this weekend, Amorim could opt for a pacey backline to combat the threat posed by Omar Marmoush.
Yoro Hopeful For A Run Of Games
Leny Yoro was one of United’s big summer signings last summer, but his first-team chances have been limited throughout the campaign due to persistent injury issues.
A sign of this was evident after picking up an injury during United’s pre-season tour, meaning that he didn’t feature in the opening months of the campaign under Erik ten Hag.
His latest injury setback was picked up in United’s draw against Arsenal in March after limping off the field with a foot injury. The Red Devils will be hopeful of keeping the defender fit for the remainder of the season, especially with huge European showdowns against Lyon creeping into sight.
Yoro has featured just 14 times in the Premier League for United this season, and has played a total of 697 minutes. The defender has kept clean sheets in just 7% of the matches that he has featured, but his individual stats remain strong.
The Frenchman has averaged 2.32 tackles per 90 in the Premier League, and he has made an average of 1.68 interceptions per fixture. Yoro has also won 24 ground duels and eight aerial duels this season, and he has only been dribbled past on six occasions; averaging 0.77 per 90.
Heaven Not Seriously Injured
In welcome news to United fans, it was also revealed by Amorim that Ayden Heaven’s injury isn’t as serious as first through. The defender was stretchered off against Leicester City before the international break, and was pictured wearing a cast on his foot when leaving the stadium.
However, the youngster is set to return to the first-team before the end of the season, and could also feature in a matchday squad before the end of the month.
The 18-year-old has caught the eye since being handed first-team minutes by Amorim, but his Premier League debut was cut short against the Foxes. Heaven has performed well based on the stats, as he has averaged 1.5 tackles per 90, and has made an average of 2.5 clearances per fixture.
He is unlikely to be rushed back into the starting eleven following the returns of Maguire and Yoro, but he will provide Amorim with additional cover in the defensive areas from the bench.
Shaw Back in Training
United could have further options available to them before the end of the season, as Amorim revealed in a recent press conference that Luke Shaw is back in first-team training.
The England left-back has featured rarely for the Red Devils throughout the season, and Amorim is taking his recovery slowly in order to gain the required fitness level before being named in the first-team squad. Mason Mount is also nearly a return to the starting eleven after being named on the bench against Leicester City.
Kobbie Mainoo is also close to returning to action after a couple of months on the sidelines, while Jonny Evans may also be fit enough to return to the bench against Lyon in a couple of weeks. However, it is likely that the Red Devils will be without Lisandro Martinez until the start of next season. |
