Kobbie Mainoo Career Stats and His Real Ceiling for Betting

 Kobbie Mainoo in Manchester United

In his first full season in the Premier League, 18-years old Kobbie Mainoo scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final. Two months later, he started the Euro 2024 final and passed the ball 85.5% of the time, which is really spectacular, isn’ it?

He was priced as a nearly certain World Cup starting from Onjabet ایران and bookmakers on several countries. This wasn't a crazy guess, given what he'd done.

After that, he sat on the bench for 14 months, got into a fight at Carrington that got out to the press, and his brother wore a protest shirt to Old Trafford. Anyone who has already decided how their job will go will feel unhappy with the question that time period brings up.

Kobbie Mainoo Stats 2023-24 Premier League Season

First-season data carries obvious caveats — opposition adjusts, managers protect young players with structure, samples are small. Mainoo's 2023-24 numbers are worth examining precisely because they don't bend under that kind of scrutiny.

Milestone

Context

Dribbles vs Luton Town

6 completed (more than all teammates combined); most by a United player since Pogba, April 2022

PL debut age

Sixth-youngest United player to make 10 Premier League appearances (18 years, 291 days; one day older than Ronaldo on his 10th PL appearance in 2003)

Euro 2024 Final

Started at 19; third-youngest England player to start a knockout stage match at a major tournament

PL Goal of the Month

Stoppage-time winner at Wolves, February 2024; scored and assisted by two teenagers, only the second time in Premier League history

The 85.5 percent passing accuracy is respectable on its own. What is harder to dismiss is the dribble map. Six successful take-ons in a single match, one more than all his teammates put together, speaks to how he reads pressure rather than just absorbs it. The Pogba reference is a data point, not a compliment. Pogba in April 2022 was barely playing. Mainoo was doing it as a first-season starter inside a squad that was simultaneously unravelling everywhere else.

A player who is making Dimitar Berbatov invoke Paul Scholes comparisons at 18, getting Man of the Match in an FA Cup final, and starting a continental final in the same calendar year. That is not statistical noise.

Player proposition markets registered all of it. Futures pricing on Mainoo making the 2026 World Cup squad had tightened faster by the end of 2023-24 than almost any England midfielder his age — a speed that reflected the density of what that single season had actually produced.

Mainoo Under Amorim Why He Lost His Starting Place

Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 had one real midfield conversation happening inside it, and it was between Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes. For a player whose game runs on carrying through pressure and finding pockets in transition, there was no structural address in that system — something Amorim either didn't see or didn't consider worth solving, depending on how generously you read fourteen months of persistent omission. The entirety of the 2025-26 season passed without a single Premier League start.

The really strange thing about that time period is that the facts wouldn't fit with the story. Even though Mainoo only played 177 league minutes over several months on the bench, he was still ranked 85th in the top five European teams for progressive carries, good take-ons, and touches in the penalty area. Paul Scholes, who has forgotten more about central midfield than most analysts have ever known, called it publicly: Mainoo was being "ruined." Gary Lineker suggested the player should consider suing his manager. Theatrical, yes. Also not entirely wrong.

The moment that probably best captured the absurdity was Mainoo's brother appearing at Old Trafford in a "Free Kobbie Mainoo" shirt — a stunt that went viral partly because it was funny and partly because the frustration behind it was completely legible to anyone watching the club. Napoli had been monitoring the situation, Mainoo had pushed for a loan exit in the summer of 2025 that United refused, and the whole thing had the texture of a contract dispute without the contract dispute.

Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, stopped selecting him for England entirely after September 2024. Ten caps accumulated, then nothing.

Kobbie Mainoo Under Carrick Form Stats and England Prospects

Carrick said he had “no doubts over his ability and what he can offer.” 14 months of being told otherwise in the selection was more a backhanded compliment about everything that had preceded it than anything else. Maynor started his streak of starts with the team playing 4-2-3-1. A couple of weeks earlier, he had assisted Mbeumo against Tottenham (winning four chances, a season high) and scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal. The talent hadn’t gone anywhere. It was just sitting in the stands.

Tuchel has not called him up for England since Amorim’s system made him invisible in the league. The World Cup qualifiers are moving full steam ahead and if you look at his carry, take-on, and chance-creation you will not see a player that is reaching up to a ceiling for the Carrick stretch. You’re looking at a professional who for a very particular fourteen-month period wasn’t given a game.
