Biography
Rasmus Højlund is a Danish international striker renowned for his pace, physical presence, intelligent movement and clinical finishing. Emerging from Denmark's youth football system, he rapidly established himself as one of Europe's most highly-rated young forwards before earning a high-profile move to Manchester United in 2023.
Born in Copenhagen on 4 February 2003, Højlund began his football journey in Denmark before progressing through the youth ranks of FC Copenhagen. He made his senior debut for the club in October 2020 and quickly attracted attention with his athleticism, work rate and goalscoring potential.
In January 2022, Højlund moved to Austrian side Sturm Graz. His impressive performances in Austria accelerated his development, and after scoring regularly in the Austrian Bundesliga he secured a transfer to Italian Serie A club Atalanta later that year.
Højlund enjoyed a breakthrough season with Atalanta during the 2022-23 campaign. His powerful displays in Serie A established him as one of Europe's most exciting young strikers and attracted interest from several leading clubs across the continent.
Manchester United signed Højlund in August 2023. Arriving at Old Trafford as one of the club's major summer acquisitions, he quickly became a popular figure among supporters thanks to his commitment, energy and determination. During his time with United he made 95 appearances in all competitions, scoring 26 goals. He was also a member of the Manchester United squad that won the 2023-24 FA Cup, defeating Manchester City at Wembley.
On the international stage, Højlund has represented Denmark at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2022. He announced himself to the wider football world with a remarkable goalscoring start for the Danish national team and quickly became one of the country's most important attacking players.
In September 2025, Højlund returned to Italy by joining Napoli on a season-long loan deal that included an obligation to buy if the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League. The move proved highly successful, with Højlund scoring 16 goals in 44 appearances during the 2025-26 season. He helped Napoli win the Supercoppa Italiana and finish runners-up in Serie A, while also becoming the club's leading scorer for the campaign.
On 3 June 2026, Napoli officially completed the permanent signing of Højlund from Manchester United. The transfer concluded his three-year association with United and marked the beginning of a new chapter in Italy, where he had successfully rediscovered his best form. Both clubs confirmed the deal, with Manchester United wishing the Danish striker every success for the future.
