PREMIERSHIP MATCHDAY 30

Old Trafford, Manchester, 15.00pm GMT, Saturday 19th March 2011.

Pre Match Press Conference Highlights

ON Rio Ferdinand
""Rio has got plenty of years ahead of him," the boss told reporters. "He's had a few injuries over the last few years which I'm sure are a concern for him, but he's still capable of getting back and playing at the top level.

"He only needs to look at the example of Gary Neville. Gary suffered with injuries in his 30s and made comebacks time and time again.

"Rio wants to play, that's the important thing. He's desperate to get back and he'll get there. It's just unlucky that this particular calf injury is lasting so long."

ON Chris Smalling

"Chris has been fantastic." declared Sir Alex. "He's a young lad and every game he's played recently has been massive, but he's been brilliant in all of them. And he's getting better.

"Confidence plays a part for any young player at our club and his level of performance has been recognised by everyone and that has given him good confidence. He's looking forward to every game at the moment."
