Pre Match Press Conference Highlights

On the Title race

“"Probably the league will start now," said the United boss, whose side face Everton at home on Saturday.

"You will get some sort of consistency and we won't be worrying about which players are coming back from international duty, where they have been and arranging flights for them to come back in time.

"We have got them now right through until March. We are delighted with that."

On Rio's injury

We’ve identified it,” he said. “We think it is back-related. It started off as a calf injury, but it happens quite a lot that they can be related to lower back problems. We’re not putting a timescale on it but it’s not a situation where we’re saying ‘months’ or anything like that, probably in two or three weeks he should be back. He’ll be back training in two weeks anyway.”

On Owen Hargreaves

“He’s doing his training very well,” Sir Alex says. “I think it’s more a confidence thing for the lad to come back into real full training with us. He’s doing quite good work with the physios and football related training, not in a competitive level at the moment.

“I think that’s being out for a year and two months. We’re of the mind that we’ll take our time and not rush it, get his confidence back in that respect."
