A massive, massive goal from Michael Owen deep in
stoppage time gave Manchester United all three
points in a fantastic seven goal thriller at Old
Trafford on Sunday. Much was made in the build up to
the game with Big Spending Bitter Blues crowing
their respective heads off all over the country
after investing heavily in the summer transfer
market.
United got themselves off to a remarkable start when
the home side found the net inside of two minutes
when Evra lost SWP after both Berbatov & Rooney
looked sharp, a quickly-taken Ryan Giggs throw-in
saw Evra find Rooney before the England striker
weaved his way through City Captain Toure and de
Jong before beating Shay Given.
The Old Trafford crowd reaction was not that far
behind the terrific support of the Turkish
supporters of Beskitas that was witnessed in midweek
as the roof was raised to the max by the ecstatic &
Red side of Manchester.
With Ex United striker
Carlos Tevez booed at every opportunity by the
sun kissed crowd, the once loved Argentine had a
major role in the equaliser as a pathetic &
schoolboy attempt at gathering a loose ball failed
by Ben Foster.
With
Foster delaying on a previous occasion on a
attempted clearance, Tevez gave Foster a wake up
call as he almost blocked but what happened next was
inexcusable from the England hopeful.
The young
United again keeper delayed on Lescott's pass,
leaving enough time for pressure from Tevez & as the
ball squirmed loose when Foster really should have
cleared into South Stand, a thankful Tevez simply
rolled a pass into the path of a rather gleeful
Gareth Barry who easily struck his shot into the
Stretford End goal.
United
looked in control but toward the end of the half
City looked the better side and the half drew to a
close the game could have easily took a turn for the
worse for United when Tevez shaved the post.
After
receiving a yellow card for scathing down Ferdinand,
Tevez was gifted a golden opportunity to score when
Kolo Toure powered into United half before finding
Tevez in the penalty area, however it is quite
debatable whether Tevez simply missed or Evra did
just about enough to put off his ex team mate with
his late desperate lunge.
The Red
side of Manchester were soon celebrating again when
after less that five minutes after the interval
Darren Fletcher saw his glancing header beat Shay
Given after a wonderful cross from Ryan Giggs.
Gaining
the upper hand and looking a sure bet for another
goal Ji-sung Park and Giggs almost scored with
efforts before Craig Bellamy scored a magical
equaliser.
Against
the run of play Tevez fed the Welsh International of
the left, after cutting inside of John O'Shea he not
unlike Nani's spectacular shots arrowed a humdinger
of a shot beyond Foster for 2-2, leaving the United
stickman no chance.
Looking
dangerous on every attack United turned up a gear as
the home sides midfield looked to control City, with
little down the flank that JSP was employed on, SAF
introduced Antonio Valencia.
The
tactic worked as Shay Given's goal was seeing more
and more action, two headed attempts from Berbatov
peppered the goal but Given was ready for anything
the Reds threw at them.
Michael
Owen was then introduced for Berbatov before Ryan
Giggs again turned provider when with 10 minutes
left when Darren Fletcher put the Reds in the lead
for the third time in the game making the score 3-2.
The
rollercoaster game failed to stop as more twists
were about the unfold, as Mark Gate of our
supporters club bus so rightfully pointed out "No
other team in the top four gives away stupid goals
from mistakes, "you never see Chelsea or Liverpool
defend quite like we do sometimes"
Another gaff of major proportions took place after a
poor attempted chipped pass saw Rio Ferdinand caught
in possession by Petrov & with only injury time left
Petrov set Bellamy of on a 60 yard run with
Ferdinand trailing before he slotted the ball passed
Foster to earn City a point.
And with
Bellamy's celebration lasting almost a minute,
Michael Carrick's substitution, United kept up the
pressure as City failed to keep possession & with
Fighter pilot like accuracy, Giggs spotted Michael
Owen's brilliant run & threaded a remarkable ball
into the feet of the Predatory striker before
slotting the ball past Shay Given leaving City
manager
Mark Hughes in a rage at the amount of added
time. |
