 Match Review

Manchester United equalled their Premiership best victory's tally for a season as Hull became the Reds latest victim at the KC Stadium on Sunday, matching the 28 victory tally of the 1999/2000 & 2006/2007 season's all three points came courtesy of a Darren Gibson thundercracker of a shot.

With all the hype of the "line up" SAF would choose against Hull, SAF's young side, more than matched the Tigers as all of the 1st team squad apart from Darren Fletcher were rested with the Champions League Final.

After reportedly being ruled out for the rest of the season with injury SAF sprang a surprise when Wes Brown was named as a starter, but the bad news, which we all must wait on is that Rio Ferdinand didn't make the trip & is more than likely to miss out in Rome on Wednesday.

Gary Neville made a return to the team as SAF sprang another surprise as Belgian born defender Ritchie De Laet made his debut at the same time becoming the 31st Nationality to wear the famous shirt of United.

Nani & Welbeck played wide & Macheda & Martin occupied the forward positions.

Corry Evans (brother of Jonny) was on the subs bench as was Danny Drinkwater & Matthew James.

If the truth be told on this performance United's team of tomorrow more than held their own and didn't take long to take the lead, this was after a brief spell of pressure by the home side in which they managed to force two early corners & make United keeper work when United's offside trap failed & Fagan almost capitalised.

Before United took the lead, Nani who im sure will still be around next season, hit a free kick at Myhill & a dangerous cross from Rafael da Silva was inches away from the reach of Lee Martin.

Hull replied with Marney shooting at Kuszczak after a corner before Gibson took centre stage.

The Irish midfielder from way out of the box on the left decided to try his luck & as he watched his rocket bulge the net, he was probably unaware that his goal "as it stood" had put Hull into the relegation zone.

Stuck in the bad place to be at this time of year, Hull needed a reaction butthe Tigers almost slipped further into the mire as Macheda with a more composed finish could have put United 2 up after good work from Nani & Martin, however he was unable to force Myhill into any real work, instead shooting straight at the Hull keeper.

Darren Fletcher & Darron Gibson got to grips with midfield as United held & enjoyed possession & Hull puffed & panted with nothing of much urgency until Dawson crossed for Turner but the header was nothing for United's Polish keeper to worry about as it sailed over.

No Rio??
Looks like we will have do it without him

United looked the more likely to increase their lead when Welbeck after a strong run failed to match his workrate with his shot as he watched his attempt slowly pass the near post.

Welbeck then turned to provider after nodding on a long ball to Italian Macheda who after showing some neat footwork managed to find himself space only to scuff his shot just wide of the post.

Hull still reeling & hardly in the game flickered after Geovanni skied a free kick into the car park, however the Ex Man City player found space on the right & teed up Dawson which resulted in a great save from Kuszczak as he steered the powerful shot over the bar.

In the second half with the better news for the Tigers that both Boro & Newcastle were loosing the home side cheered on by their fans made a bright start when Kilbane's cross found Old Age Relic Nick Barmby but his shot was saved by Kuszczak.

More good work from United's keeper blocked danger when a deep cross at the far post was blocked & then positioning himself well he saved a tame header from Turner.

United then found a bit of their rhythm from the 1st half when a loose ball was picked up by Lee Martin in acres of space in the middle of the pitch, seeing the run of Macheda on the left, Martin slipped in a ball which the young Italian was woeful as his wild shot found row ZZ.

United's sub Richard Eckersley then instinctively let fly from outside the box when Lee Martin teed him up on the spur of the moment, but the United full back just dragged his shot wide.

Hull's MOTM by a country mile Michael Turner almost equalised when he headed on a Ricketts throw but once again Kuszczak was equal as he gathered from under the bar.

A Nani shot shortly before full time went close for United as Myhill save well & as the final whistle blew, for Hull fans the extra injury time at Villa Park must have been agony as the KC Stadium sweated on a possible Newcastle equaliser

However Hull were lucky & West Brom, Boro & Newcastle United were all relegated.
