United's Goalkeeper
EVDS established a new Football League record on Saturday after
accomplishing another clean sheet in the defeat of Everton. A mammoth record which was held
by Reading's Steve Death for 30 years was broken when EVDS &
his United front line finished the game against Everton on a
staggering
1,122 minutes without conceding a league goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo dispatched a penalty which the ever
impressive Michael Carrick created, leaving Liverpool to
eventually defeat Chelsea at Anfield to pull to two points
behind United in the title race (United also have a game in
hand of course)
With many former
Reds this season in the Blue of Everton former United keeper
Tim Howard
impressed throughout with key saves, keeping his team in the
game as the home side threatened to run away with the tie.
SAF gave a start to Darren Fletcher otherwise the game was
very much as you were from United's last league triumph at
the Hawthorns.
United looking the more deserving & dangerous to open the
scoring forcing Howard into numerous saves when the American
keeper saved with his foot from Carlos Tevez & again from
JSP.
With Michael Carrick impressing again for the Reds, the
midfielder is now showing his best form in a United shirt &
continued his sparkling form pulling strings centrally.
United pressured Everton as Ronaldo struck the post with the
Reds knocking for the opening goal before his long range
shot tipped over the bar by Tim Howard & Michael
Carrick volleyed from the left but his effort went wide.
With little in the way of attacking verve from Everton only
Steven Pienaar and the overlapping Leighton Baines on the
left flank making headway the Everton pairing failed to
match a cross with their work rate as the game was
controlled & calm as the 1st half drew to a close.
A minute before half time & United still controlling with
ease, Michael Carrick broke on a run into the Everton box
where Mikel Arteta clumsily fouled & tripped the midfielder
with referee Mark Halsey pointing to the spot.
Ronaldo then stepped up & easily dispatched his penalty for
his 13th goal of the season.
The second half
began with the most blatant penalty you are likely to see
this season as after only two minutes that man Carrick
collected a JOS ball in the box when Lescott clearly felled
Carrick but Mark Halsey
decided not & the game continued.
Searching for the
second goal for comfort & daylight, Carlos Tevez shot wide
before attempting to beat Howard with a curling effort which
was gathered by the Everton goalkeeper.
Limiting
themselves to set pieces of great distance Everton rarely
tested record breaking keeper EVDS, not surprisingly due to
the Toffees missing a whole host of striking options
including injured Ex United striker
Louis Saha.
David Moyes then replaced Fellaini for Victor Anichebe as
the visiting Manager tried to craft some sort of creation
when he dropped Tim Cahill back into his favored & usual
position in centre midfield & give Anichebe a license to
create an outlet for the punchless attack.
Howard again
rescued his team as Carlos Tevez's deflected free-kick
caused havoc for T-Ho who saved well tipping over the crossbar.
The Reds can count themselves lucky that their will be
harder fixtures to come but this "easy day" at the office
restored United's points cushion at the top of the table.
With little in
thre way of attack from Everton on another day possibly Mark
Halsey may have given Everton a penalty after Lescott & Ferdinand
tangled but Halsey decided against the screaming claims of
Lescott.
