Pre
Match Press Conference Highlights |

On Rio Ferdinand.
We are delighted to have Rio back," "From time to time
he gets this odd spasm in his back. He has missed the last
four games and that has given us the opportunity to settle
it down and do some work on it.
"He has trained the last few days and is feeling much
better. "You always benefit from the best players and Rio is
one of the best centre-backs in the world there is no
question about that.
On Jonny Evans
His pace, balance and use of the ball have always been great
features of his game. We are very lucky to have someone like
Jonny to replace him.
"Jonny is now 21 and for a young lad the maturity he has
shown and his reading of the game has been a real Godsend to
us when someone like Rio is out of your team. To have
someone like Evans puts us in a great position.
On League position & games in hand
"We have come to the situation now where our home form
has to be 100 per cent in the run-in," "Our home form has to
be 100 per cent to give us an outstanding chance. We have a
good home record and it has to be so again.
"We have been away to all the top sides and now we have them
at home in the second half of the season and that will play
a part in deciding whether we have a chance of winning this
league or not. "That part is over now. We have done
well to be in a position we are. We have two games in hand.
Those two games are at home (against Wigan next Wednesday
and versus Fulham on February 17).
"It gives us a chance to narrow the gap but before that we
have the important game against Chelsea. It's a game that
can set us off and allow us to cash in on our home games." |
