 Match Review

The Editor of MUFCINFO.COM Article by Mark Graham, Editor, Record Keeper & Official Reporter @ MUFCINFO.COM

Liverpool deservedly defeated Manchester United and at the same time duly claiming a fortnight of wind ups & bragging rites in the process after United excessively faded after an bright early start.  Carlos Tevez opened the scoring for United with only three minutes gone as United looked dangerous with an array of attacking talent on show but Liverpool showed determination replying with a cock up of a own goal from EVDS & a scuffed Ryan Babel goal for the eventual winner.

After looking decidedly dangerous in the 1st portion of the match with Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov all included in the team the United attack saw the Kop stunned to find themselves 1-0 down before the United loathing vermin's derrières had in-fact touched the seats.

Berbatov becoming the 1st Bulgarian player & 29th different Nationality to play a competitive game for United began his debut with sparkle as Anderson's first-rate ball had United's new signing pull the ball across goal allowing the on rushing Carlos Tevez to rifle past Reina.

United looked assured & calm as the visitors attack looked a decent bet for another goal as Anderson, Carrick & Scholes moved the ball around midfield.

Dirk Kuyt saw a chance fall his way but volleyed wide as Liverpool continued to struggle.

Under no pressure from a deep corner, EVDS then started a string of calamitous errors as he fumbled a cross in the box giving Kuyt a chance which was partially redeemed by the Big Dutch stickman after his fellow country mans gifted effort was blocked.

Further pathetic goalkeeping then gifted Liverpool an equaliser when Xabi Alonso from outside of the box, tried a long range effort which cannoned off Evra and bounced in the United box, Wes Brown then ran to shield the ball for EVDS to collect but instead EVDS raced out of goal & inexplicably dived and pushed the ball with no danger near onto Wes Brown, causing the ball to deflect into the net for an equaliser, an equaliser which United didn't recover.

After Tevez almost brought the home side immediately back down to earth after side footing an Anderson pass high of the bar, but United then lost the plot.

"We were only in the game for seven or eight minutes and after that we did not perform said New Assistant boss Mike Phelan, and the former United man was right, United went to sleep he continued "They bossed us out of the game and their tactics worked as they put us under pressure"

United after failing to get to grips with midfield like at the start of the match, Liverpool comfortably saw out the remainder of the 1st half cutting off the supply to Rooney & co & forcing Scholes, Carrick & Anderson to chase shadows as Liverpool's midfield saw lots more possession.

In the second half Liverpool continued their form as Robbie Keane sent Benayoun through on goal but EVDS blocked his shot.

Ryan Giggs replaced the injured Carrick at the start of the 2nd half and it was Giggs who fashioned the 1st United chance of the half after Gerrard has lost possession, the ball sat up nicely for the Welshman who volley from outside the box but Reina expertly tipped the ball over the bar, still reminding the home side their was much still to do.

Another total defensive cock up the cost the Reds dearly as the most experienced Liverpool V MUFC veteran Ryan Giggs dilly dallied whilst trying to guide the ball out of play for a goal kick, Mascherano then pick pocketed (no pun intended) Giggs deep in the United box before the ball was passed into the danger area by Dirk Kuyt leaving the whole visiting defence on the back foot.

Impressive substitute Ryan Babel, who had earlier left Wes Brown for dead with a sublime piece of skill on the left, scuffed his shot into the ground before it bounced & has to be said gave Liverpool the lead they deserved.

United's "Bad day at the office" continued as the already yellow carded Nemanja Vidic received his marching orders after clattering into Alonzo.

SAF also added to the mix with a comment  "We can take nothing positive from this. We didn't have one performer on the pitch apart from possibly Rio Ferdinand. It was disappointing."

Ferguson added: "Our defending was very poor for both Liverpool goals."

 MUFCINFO's MAN OF THE MATCH

Hard to pick a clear MOTM with so many disappointing performances, but Rio gets it just.
 MUFCINFO.COM's REACTION
1 win, 1 Draw & 1 lost in the league, we need a big pick me up because I would not want to be here next Monday morning looking at a gap of 9 points with a game in hand of course.

Does anyone think that maybe Scholes should be used more sparingly now that Anderson, Carrick & Hargreaves seem to be getting fit??
