Manchester United left Glasgow perhaps wondering how again
only one point was earned as the Champions Of Europe, after
a slow spluttering
1st half combined of course with some heroic home defending,
eventually found a new gear as Celtic tried to weather an
All Blue Storm which ended after 90 minutes with a whopping
28 attempts on goal. The Home side opened the scoring
with Scott McDonalds quality finish on 13 minutes before
Ryan Giggs one of United's poorer players on the night more
than deservingly leveled for United with 5 minutes left.
SAF had made some key changes to the team with an eye on
Arsenal on Saturday as Rafael, JOS, Darren Fletcher, Giggs &
Tevez all made starts leaving, Rooney, Evra, Anderson,
Berbatov on a rather attractive & mighty bench.
With Villarreal drawing with Aalborg 2-2 this now means
United only require one point from their last three games to
enter the knockout stages.
United had
an opening Ronaldo free kick sail over as their 1st chance
after Darren Fletcher was fouled by Barry Robson and as the
game began to settle, poor choices & passes in the final
third kept Celtic alive for the rest of the game.
The
home side, proudly displaying banners around Celtic Park
such as "We Won it first" & Lisbon 67 were whipped into an
early frenzy with brilliant finishing as a clearance by
Vidic from a Celtic free kick was headed back into the box,
Gary Caldwell then with a clever header fed McDonald who
beat Ben Foster with a piece of individual brilliance.
United in their All Blue Strip to commemorate the 40th
anniversary of the 1968 Triumph began the "missed chances
show" as Rio
Ferdinand somehow skied his shot over from three yards, his
central defensive partner Nemanja Vidic had a header cleared
off the line as United got into a stride .
With Fletcher & Carrick being hounded in midfield, Celtic
threatened with a Maloney shot directly at Foster after good
work on the left, the United keeper was a he probably had
wished for a busy night collecting shots & crosses in the
1st period
Celtic managing United's forwards well defended brilliantly,
as time and time again the final ball into danger areas
cannoned off or was met with towering defensive headers from
Celtics centre half's or impressive midfield toilers.
Such was the defensive effort of the Celts saw the final
statistics show 14 blocked shots.
With United
trailing & SAF obviously wanting victory in his home town
the United manager brought on the Vampire of Bulgaria for a
inspired piece of magic & the Bulgarian genius visually gave
UNited the extra edge in his link up play .
Celtic still feeding from the ear shredding noise supplied
by the home support had another Maloney shot saved as United
moved up a gear.
Tevez had a dangerous cross cut out & Ronaldo made keeper
Boruc save, Berbatov flicked a ball goal bound which was
cleared off the line by the impressive Maloney.
Under no show of cracking defensively the battering
continued for Celtic and as one West Cumbria Red, Mr Graeme
Todhunter stated, "this is the most one sided game of
football I have ever saw in my 28 years", in your reporters
opinion Celtic were defending in the same comparison of the
game last season in Barcelona, where one side attacks & the
other defends & tries to knick a goal on the break.
Celtic had gotten their goal & defended with the same
resulting accolades that Carlos Tevez & Ji Sung Park we so
applauded for by United fans last season.
If you cant score with your possession & boy did we have
possession, you wont win games.
Celtic with
limited time on the ball almost took a two nil lead when
Caldwell headed over a Maloney corner.
SAF then baffled everyone as in your reporters opinion MOTM
(if he had 90 minutes) Carlos Tevez was taken off for Wayne
Rooney, who earlier warming up in front of the United fans
was requested to "Kiss the badge" & the Skinheed obliged
with a big kiss of his shirt & badge which was met with
frenzied cheers.
Shortly
after coming on Rooney had Boruc turn a shot around the post
as the White Pele blasted a shot from outside the box,
With the story oh so familiar United attack, Celtic defend,
the Reds finally got a deserved goal when Ronaldo smashed a
swerving drive at Boruc who could not hang on to the shot &
& like a predator Ryan Giggs with possibly his only telling
piece of the night nodded the ball over the line putti8ng
United one foot in the KO Stages door.
The game
could have been turned upside down for the home side with
the last kick of the match as Berbatov unexpectedly found
himself in space in the box, but his turn & shot never
tested a thank full Celtic Park as both side shares the
points.
A big up goes to
Dave Whelan, Mark "Legend" Gate, Grant Thompson, Weighty,
Steve Abbott, Toddy, Tinker, Neal Fearon, Mike, Niffy &
