 Match Review

Joyce, truly & genuinely one of lifes better people. It comes with great sadness to MUFCINFO.COM that Mrs.Joyce Patterson, my Mother in law & the Lady who was responsible for a great deal of hard work to our West Cumbria Reds Branch flag has passed away.

Joyce always took pride in the fact that "her" flag as she liked to call it, was on television at each home game behind the Stretford End & would always keep an eye on TV footage in the Away sections in Europe & Premiership away games.

Joyce demonstrated phenomenal courage & showed great heart during her battle and will be truly missed by all her family & friends.

One of life's better people, God Bless...you will be so missed. Mrs. Joyce Patterson.

Our newest signing almost bagged a hat trick as United ran out comfortable & deserving winners in Denmark, an opening goal from Wayne Rooney & a brace from Berbatov giving United all three points on the night.

The game came with a price for United as Paul Scholes later leaving on crutches & Wayne Rooney & the sublime Rafael Da Silva were all taken off due to injury.

Editor: At point of going to press Paul Scholes is expected to be out 10 weeks with medial knee ligament damage.

SAF said "We had one or two other injuries," "Young Rafael got injured and Rooney has an ankle problem. He felt a weakness in it when he went to receive a ball and we took him off straightaway.

"So there was maybe a cost to pay for the victory. Nonetheless we have four points now and it's where we want to be."

SAF opted to field Rooney & Berbatov together up front with Rafael Da Silva filling in the right back spot superbly well, John O'Shea was partnered with Paul Scholes in United's midfield.

United started well and Berbatov could have easily had a hat trick, as a gifted chance came his was only for the Bulgarian to slice horribly wide, Ronaldo harassed keeper Zaza and a rushed clearance later only managed to find the Portuguese forward who found Berbatov who in turn hopelessly miscued.

United looked dangerous throughout the game and it was only a matter of time before a goal would come, as the Reds settled & Paul Scholes began to string passes together, building the visitors attacks, the Ginger Ninja night was cut short as Aalborg captain Augustinussen caught Scholes with a kick as the two players tangled for possession.

Scholes stayed on the floor before he was stretchered off & replaced by fellow veteran Ryan Giggs.

With the forced change United had the look of the 2005/2006 season with John O'Shea & Ryan Giggs due to injuries etc making up United's engine room for a large chunk of the season & it was Ryan Giggs brilliant pass which set up United's 1st goal.

Timing his run perfectly, Wayne Rooney latched onto a threaded Giggs pass into the box & the England Striker converted past Zaza for his second goal of the season and also his second in as many games.

The home side didn't muster much of a threat but United's rear guard when rarely called upon were alert & up for the task as Rio Ferdinand prevented a Bogelund shot with a well timed block.

Wes Brown & Gary Neville must have sat up and took particular notice to the number 21 shirt as one Rafael Da Silva put in a breath taking shift on the right hand side of United's defence.

Rafael's distribution & crossing appears at these early stages appears better than both out experienced full backs & his shooting ability looked more than impressive as he nearly added an account opener on two separate occasions.

With a deserving half time lead the second half was much the same with United creating and looking dangerous each and every time the Reds poured forward.

Ten minutes into the second half, Berbatov opened his Goalscoring account in gift horse circumstance, in what could only be described as a "routine training ground volley".

The Danish version of the Chuckle Brothers Olfers and Augustinussen made a total hash of playing a ball out of their penalty box with Augustinussen it has to be said teeing up Berbatov as the United striker smashed a volley into an open net for 2-0.

Goal number two came shortly after in extravagant fashion as Berbatov, with excellence of execution, altered his position & body shape to receive Ronaldo's cross before volleying an unstoppable shot past Zaza for 3-0 on the night.

The victory meant United top Group E table with Villarreal second after the yellow Submarines defeated Celtic 1-0.
