Match Review

Manchester City 1 v 0 Manchester United, Eastlands, Manchester, 13.30pm, Sunday 19th August 2007.
Goals:
Manchester City: Geovanni (31), Manchester United : n/a.
Attendance: 44,955

It has to be said but whether your a United fan or not "abysmal luck in front of goal" continues to frustrate players, coaches & fans alike as Manchester City claimed full bragging rights in the Manchester Derby on Sunday. No one can argue that the Reds are not playing well but several key saves from Kasper Schmeichel and a towering game from Richard Dunne & man mountain Micah Richards saw City dominated for large portions of the match but still collect all three points.

SAF surprised many when Owen Hargreaves made his debut, apparently unavailable & injured on Friday, SAF pulled a surprise & the former Bayern Munich midfielder did not disappoint with a strong display in his first of what could be a regular occurrence. Opting for Carlos Tevez as the lone striker the Argie had a torrid time at Eastlands as he was bossed and bumped around, given little time and space & sorely needed a partner.

SAF's only other attacking options "doubled" for this fixture as both Fraiser Campbell & Chris Eagles were both named on the bench.

United went close in the 1st half with both Nani & Evra prompting Red Legend Peter Schmeichel's son Kasper into action & just like his Dad used to do saved well when one on one.

Once again for the entire game United saw many chances, kept possession well & left EVDS bored shi*ess & the luckless Reds United didn't take long before Nani shot forcing a save from Schmeichel, the second string keeper would save again from United's winger minutes later.

With Patrice Evra pushing forward and playing most of the game as an attacking winger the French full back found space behind the City defence only to make a complete hash of his shot.

City forced into an early substitution lost Bojinov and he was replaced my Mpenza, but City still were second best in all avenues.

The Reds continued with chances as Richards would tackle Tevez after bearing down on goal, the defender who has been switched by Eriksson to the centre half position then cleared danger in the form of a Ryan Giggs cross.

WHACK!!!!
The sucker punch would soon come in the form of City's 1st attack, confusion between Vidic & Hargreaves as to who would close down
Geovanni, the Serbanator punished for his poor style of posture for blocking shot saw his deflected blocking attempt ark wide of the post but curl past the outstretched EVDS leaving the unemployed keeper with his only task of lifting the ball out of the net.

In the second half Vidic would almost atone for his error, after beating Richard Dunne, Vidic met Giggs corner however the curse held fast & United's centre back saw his attempt strike the bar, soon after Richards cleared a tasty Giggs cross from the feet of Tevez.

Tevez almost levelled after flicking Giggs's cross inches wide.

So can the person with the voodoo curse on United's goal haul please f*ck off now, its not funny anymore or enjoyable, as deep into injury time a Ryan Giggs corner somehow found its way to the back post where Carlos Tevez seemingly startled by the fact the ball had reached his location dived at the ball with his head from 1 yard out missing totally.

Even SAF presumed United had levelled as he was out of his seat arms raised only to look dumbfounded as the wiley Scot finally realised Tevez had missed.

United's Man of the Match
An impressive debut for the ex Bayern Midfielder, much more to come aswell.

It looks like Chelsea's title already. I'm not saying it because we're a few points behind them but because our new players don't seem to be settling in too well. Hargreaves got plaudits for his performance but he was bought to help defend in front of the back four.
Where was he when that Bertie picked the ball up, steadied himself, had a sandwich, then fluked his shot past EVDS?

Our defence is dodgy and our goals have dried up due to poor finishing, not great defending.

I'm sure Fergal will get it sorted, but it could be too late for the title by then. Chelsea have added to their defence, which has plugged the hole that lost them the title last season. Alex is a class defender and him and Terry will be formidable.
We'll just have to settle for the Champions League - as long as Liverpool can knock Chelsea out again.

Comments: From KENT: should of kept Nani on when SAF took him off lacked something going forward. Also got rid of smith, big mistake, should of been fletcher. Need another striker or Saha fit all the time, Am sure luck will change soon.

Comments: AS A REAL BITTER BLUE, I VERY RARELY AGREE WITH SOME OF THE THINGS THE RED HALF WRITE, HOWEVER AFTER READING THE ABOVE SUMMARY, I THOUGHT YOU GOT IT ABOUT RIGHT.  I HOPE YOUR GOAL DROUGHT CONTINUES, HOWEVER I THINK THAT'S THE BITTER IN ME, YOU WILL GO ONTO SCORE HATFULS THIS SEASON, AND BE CHAMPIONS.  C U YOU AT YOUR PLACE AND PERHAPS WE CAN PINCH ANOTHER 3 POINTS .BITTER BLUE AND PROUD.
