THE NEW MUFC KIT
2009....AND THE Inspiration BEHIND IT.
Article by Mark Graham, Editor, Record Keeper & Official
Reporter @ MUFCINFO.COM.
 Over
the recent weeks your Editors inbox had received
numerous ideas, opinions, pictures etc of what the new
Manchester United kit will look like, some bad, some
truly ridiculous.
Of the two that we received today the Red home kit looks
99% certain to be exact, and the White which I prefer to
be honest, looks like a mock up & will probably change.
However with the new kit launching July 1st, the
official website are currently taking pre orders for the
Home kit & have darkened the advertising images of the
shirt to keep us all in suspense, but also confirming
that the shirt pictured left looks accurate.
The inspiration behind the shirt coincides with United
celebrating 100 years at Old Trafford & also remembering
the achievements of the 1st great United side built by
then Manager
Ernest Mangnall.
Current United defender Rio Ferdinand explained to the
official website "Maintaining the traditions of the club
is very important," "Last season we had the blue
kit to remember the European Cup winners of 1968 and
this one dates back to the 1900s to celebrate 100 years
of Old Trafford.
"This club has always taken pride in its history - it
acts as an inspiration to all of us and it’s great to
see it represented in the new kit."
The
said 1900s side were a team which won the League in
1907/08 & 1910/11 and also managed to sandwich United's
very first FA Cup in 1908/09 between Two Division One
league titles. (pictured right).
United played their first match at Old Trafford in a
League Division One match on the 19th February 1909 &
ironically were beaten by Liverpool 4-3.
Thomas Homer & George Wall scored for United as did Alex
"Sandy" Turnbull, a United legend who scored the winning
goal in the 1909 FA Cup Final.
