it's 105th for giggs, but what about
the others?
To score 100 league goals in your career takes several
things, longevity, fitness, and vitally playing in a
forward position to name but a few, Ryan Giggs on
Saturday evening against Portsmouth ensured himself
further career accolades when his late free kick and his
teams 4th goal completed United's 4-1 thumping of
Portsmouth, thus taking his remarkable tally to 100
Premiership goals & 5 league goals in the old 1st
division.
Several United Legends got
seemingly close to the 100 mark, the first being
Joe Cassidy who netted 90 league goals 109 years
ago,
Sandy Turnbull, scorer of the winning goal in
United's
1909 FA Cup Final victory against Bristol City
matched Cassidy with 90, then an enormous gap of 100
years before from the Sir Alex Ferguson era came
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with 91,
Andrew Cole who would have easily surpassed 100
before his transfer to Blackburn Rovers with 93, even
Ruud Van Nistlerooy, United's most prolific goalscorer
in history only managed 95 before leaving for Spain.
Top of the pile of "nearly
men" is
Paul Scholes who so far has netted 98 goals and is a
sure fire bet to join the 100 club & his long time team
mate as he is the only one left still playing fore the
Reds.
The next bunch of men
however past the magic 100 and are as follows:
